At KDH Counseling, we provide child and teen therapy in Lafayette, Louisiana, with in-person appointments and telehealth services available across Louisiana for families seeking compassionate, evidence-based support. Our practice includes both therapists and psychiatric nurse practitioners, making it easier to find the right starting point and level of care for your child or teen.

HOW WE HELP CHILDREN AND TEENS

We support children, teens, and families with concerns such as:

  • Emotional overwhelm and difficulty regulating emotions

  • School stress, academic pressure, or school avoidance

  • Behavior changes, irritability, or shutdown responses

  • Family conflict

  • Attention, executive functioning, and ADHD-related concerns

  • Anxiety, social stress, or friendship difficulties

  • Sensory overwhelm and neurodivergent-related stress

THERAPISTS AND PSYCH NPS IN ONE PRACTICE

Some children and teens benefit from therapy alone. Others may need a broader treatment plan that includes psychiatric support, medication management, or diagnostic clarification. Because our practice includes therapists and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners (Psych NPs), families can access more coordinated and collaborative care in one practice.

Our team works together to support concerns related to anxiety, emotional regulation, ADHD, neurodivergence, school stress, trauma, and mood-related difficulties while helping families better understand what their child or teen may be experiencing.

WHEN YOU ARE NOT SURE WHERE TO START

Many parents know their child needs support but are not sure whether to begin with therapy, psychiatric care, or both. We help families understand their options while creating a plan that feels thoughtful, collaborative, and individualized to their child or teen’s needs.

SPECIALIZED SUPPORT WHEN NEEDED

If your child or teen needs support for a more specific concern, we may recommend one of our specialty services, including OCD therapy, trauma therapy, neurodiversity-affirming therapy, ADHD support, or medication management.

How do I know if my child or teen needs therapy?

If you are noticing emotional distress, behavior changes, school, struggles, shutdown, withdrawal, or family conflict that is not resolving on its own, therapy may be helpful.

Do you offer both therapy and medication support for children and teens?

Yes. Our practice includes therapist and psychiatric nurse practitioners, so families can access coordinator care when appropriate.

What if I do not know whether to start with a therapist or Psych NP?

That is common. Our team can help guide you toward the right starting point based on your child's needs.

Can therapy help with school anxiety or school refusal?

Yes. Therapy can help children and teens better understand emotional overwhelm, anxiety, peer stress, perfectionism, or regulation difficulties that may contribute to school avoidance or academic distress.

Do you work with neurodivergent children and teens?

Yes. Our practice provides neurodiversity-affirming support for children and teens with ADHD, autism, sensory differences, executive functioning challenges, and emotional regulation difficulties.

Can parents be involved in therapy?

Parent involvement is often an important part of treatment, especially for younger children and teens. Therapists may help parents better understand emotional regulation, communication patterns, sensory overwhelm, or behavioral concerns.

What concerns do teens commonly seek therapy for?

Teens often seek support for anxiety, emotional overwhelm, depression, school stress, social difficulties, attention concerns, identity development, burnout, and major life transitions.
