John Michael Bellard

JOHN MICHAEL BELLARD, APRN, PMHNP-C

"Mental health care is deeply personal. My goal is to meet people where they are, honor their stories, and walk alongside them toward something steadier, clearer, and more hopeful."

Born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, John Michael witnessed firsthand the quiet and not-so-quiet ways mental health struggles shape a community. Anxiety, depression, and trauma were never abstract concepts—they were neighbors, classmates, families, and emergency room beds filled in the early hours of the morning. Bearing witness to that reality planted an enduring question that continues to guide his work: How do we do better?

His path into mental health care began in nursing. John Michael earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and went on to work as an Emergency Department RN, caring for individuals in the midst of acute mental health crises-moments marked by fear, confusion, and vulnerability. Those experiences not only shaped his clinical skill but clarified his purpose: to move beyond stabilization and toward long-term healing.

That calling led him back to UL Lafayette, where he completed his Master of Science in Nursing and became a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. His work is grounded in the belief that mental health care should be accessible, compassionate, and free from shame. For him, reducing stigma is not a slogan- it is a daily practice rooted in listening, education, and consistent presence when people need support most.

Outside of work, John Michael values the moments that keep him grounded. He enjoys spending time with his fiancé, Nick, and their golden doodle, Ellie, reading a good book, and engaging in a competitive game of pickleball. These moments of balance mirror the steadiness he encourages in his clients.

Amy Bordelon

AMY BORDELON, MSN, PMHNP-BC

Amy is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with more than twenty years of nursing experience. Raised in Port Barre, Louisiana, Amy earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2003 and spent much of her career working in emergency care, where she developed a deep appreciation for the complex ways emotional and physical health intersect.

Motivated by a long-standing interest in mental health care, Amy returned to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and completed her Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in psychiatric mental health in 2025. Her clinical approach reflects both her years of frontline medical experience and her commitment to helping people navigate some of the most difficult periods of their lives with thoughtful, evidence-based care.

At KDH Counseling, Amy provides psychiatric diagnostic evaluations, medication management, and individualized treatment planning for adults experiencing concerns such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, bipolar disorder, and PTSD. She approaches treatment collaboratively, working closely with clients and therapists to ensure care is comprehensive, practical, and aligned with each person’s goals for well-being and daily functioning.

Amy believes that effective mental health care combines careful assessment, clear communication, and a genuine respect for each person’s lived experience. Her goal is to help clients find stability, clarity, and sustainable improvement in their mental health.

Outside of her clinical work, 2025 has been a meaningful year for Amy. She became engaged to her fiancé, Greg, completed her graduate degree, and is preparing to welcome her second daughter in early 2026. She is also the proud mother of her daughter, Rhyen. Time with family and friends remains an important part of her life and helps her maintain the balance she values both personally and professionally.

CONDITIONS WE TREAT WITH MEDICATION:

Medication management supports a range of mental health concerns through careful assessment and individualized planning. Treatment is tailored to your symptoms, goals, and daily functioning.

OUR APPROACH TO PSYCHIATRIC MEDICATION MANAGEMENT

  • Evidence-based medication management

  • Individualized treatment planning

  • Collaborative, client-centered care

  • Focus on long-term functioning-not just symptom reduction

  • Integration with therapy and psychological evaluation when needed

MEDICATION AS PART OF A COMPREHENSIVE TREATMENT PLAN

Medication is most effective when considered as part of a broader, integrated approach to care. For many individuals, combining medication with therapy can support deeper and more lasting change. Therapy can address underlying patterns, coping strategies, and emotional processing, while medication may help reduce the intensity of symptoms that make this work more difficult.

At KDH Counseling, we prioritize coordination between providers when appropriate, ensuring that medication management supports-not replaces-the therapeutic process. This approach allows for care that is both clinically grounded and responsive to the complexity of each person’s experience.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT

  • Comprehensive evaluation of symptoms and history

  • Collaborative discussion of treatment options

  • Ongoing monitoring and medication adjustments

  • Focus on both effectiveness and side effects

  • Integration with therapy when appropriate
