OCD THERAPY THAT IN LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA THAT HONORS THE PERSON

WHAT OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER REALLY LOOKS LIKE

OCD can show up in many different ways, but it often includes intrusive thoughts, images, or urges that feel disturbing, unwanted, or out of character. These obsessions create intense anxiety, leading to compulsions — behaviors or mental rituals meant to reduce distress or prevent feared outcomes.

While compulsions may bring temporary relief, they ultimately reinforce the OCD cycle, making intrusive thoughts feel more powerful and persistent over time.

HOW ERP TREATMENT HELPS BREAK THE OCD CYCLE

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is an evidence-based therapy that helps individuals gradually face feared thoughts, images, or situations without engaging in compulsions. Over time, the brain learns that anxiety can rise and fall on its own - and that feared outcomes do not need to be prevented through rituals or avoidance.

ERP is not about forcing exposure or “white-knuckling” distress. It is a collaborative, paced process that builds flexibility, tolerance for uncertainty, and confidence in one’s ability to respond differently to fear.

TAKING THE FIRST STEP TOWARD OCD TREATMENT

OCD can make it feel impossible to trust yourself, your thoughts, or your decisions. Effective treatment helps restore that trust — not by offering certainty, but by building confidence in how you respond to uncertainty.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is ERP and how long does it take?

ERP is a structured therapy that helps you face triggers without rituals so your brain learns new safety signals. Many clients notice change within 4–6 weeks; full courses often run 12–20+ sessions depending on severity.

Do you treat Harm OCD, religious scrupulosity, or taboo thoughts?

Yes. Intrusive thoughts of any content respond to the same process. We treat the pattern (obsessions → anxiety → compulsions), not the content.

Will I be forced into exposures I’m not ready for?

No. ERP is collaborative and paced. We start with doable steps and build confidence.

Can medication help OCD?

For some clients, yes. We can coordinate with your prescriber or our in‑house medical provider to discuss options.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. We provide secure telehealth for Louisiana residents when clinically appropriate.

Is this different from general talk therapy?

Yes. ERP is an active, skills‑based treatment specifically designed for OCD. Many clients who didn’t improve in supportive therapy make strong gains with ERP.
